New Orleans Police Department Job Fair 2026

As New Orleans comes to life this week with Carnival season kicking off, the New Orleans Police department, who help to keep their fellow laissez-faire New Orleanians safe, are hosting a job fair this Saturday, January 10.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., all are welcome to meet those who wear the badge. Whether it's patrol, investigation, community services, tech, forensics, or mounted, all domains of the NOPD will be there to answer questions on potential career paths. This is an excellent opportunity for those just out of college, interested in new career paths, or curious about the work our officers do. The event will be held at 4650 Paris Ave. in New Orleans.

Why This Matters

As of this year, the New Orleans Police Department is staffed with around 910 commissioned officers, but they are looking to build that number to 1,200, according to NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick. While the number of officers remained under Kirkpatrick's minimum for another year in 2025, according to Axios.com, the New Orleans crime rate has continued to fall for the third year in a row. Note that this trend precedes the arrival of national guard to the city, and Kirkpatrick credits the innovation and hard-work of local law enforcement for this improvement.

Despite this downward trend, national guard troops have been deployed to the city through Mardi Gras this year. A rise in NOPD officers could mean less imported law enforcement for future citywide events, making the NOPDs stated mission, to be community-oriented, more possible.

The role of the NOPD goes beyond crime-rate statistics. They are part of our city's array of first-responders, whose primary function, at its best, is to allow their community members, in all their vibrancy, to thrive. If you are interested in playing a part of this vital role, or if you simply have questions, come down this Saturday and see what the New Orleans Police Department has to offer.
