Fans of the weird and quirky came out Saturday for the first annual “New Orleans Weird Homes Tour.” In a self-guided tour all around the city, fans of the odd and eccentric toured nine different “weird” homes—some weirder than others. From the unusually constructed to the strangely decorated to places with a bizarre past, stops along the way included artists’ houses, the home of the last Madam of Storyville and that of a Vodou priestess, and two converted shipping container homes. Also on display at one house was a couch made from the original casket of the dive-bar goddess, Ms. Mae.
Ten percent of the proceeds from the tour will go to HousingNOLA, an organization that works to provide affordable housing to those in need.
If you missed the tour, the Weird Homes gang will be back in New Orleans next year with new oddities to show off.
