Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026)

Disney+'s hit Star Wars show The Mandalorian hits the big screen with the intermittently entertaining Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Pedro Pascal reprises his role as the titular armored bounty hunter traveling with his apprentice/ward Grogu (a baby Yoda). A new assignment has him tracking Rotta the Hutt (voiced by Jeremy Allen White), the son of Return of the Jedi villain Jabba the Hutt. Rotta proves to be a bit more complex than his father, and some of the exchanges between the Mandalorian and Rotta work well. They work so well that Rotta's presence is missed when he disappears for large stretches of the film's second half.

The more fun parts are largely clustered in the first half. Aside from Rotta, there's also an amusing ending to a gladiatorial battle royale. In an unexpected (but quite funny) cameo, legendary director Martin Scorsese provides the voice for a skittish four-armed alien food truck vendor.

While the second hour is not bad, it steadily runs out of steam. The character dynamics aren't as interesting. The CGI's quality varies wildly from scene to scene, and the film's 132-minute length feels somewhat padded.

Full disclosure: This reviewer has not watched the streaming show, and most of the other audience members at the crowded theater seemed to thoroughly enjoy The Mandalorian and Grogu.
