Learn About Food Equity in the City of New Orleans

I Am New Orleans, a community-led project devoted to addressing issues on racial equity and improving the quality of life for all people in New Orleans, is hosting a free panel discussion event on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Grow Dat Youth Farm starting at 1 p.m. Grow Dat Youth Farm, an organization that works to nurture the next generation of student leaders through empowering work on sustainable farms in the New Orleans area, is partnering with I am New Orleans to teach community members about urban farming and share resources to combat food inequity in the area.

This free panel discussion will be I am New Orleans's first in-person event. The event's impressive panel members will include the 7th Ward Revitalization project manager and FARMacia Wellness Hub director Pamela Broom, Familias Unidas En Acción executive director Leticia Casildo, Sankofa CDC's Healthy Heartbeats community facilitator Cheryl Brickley, Crown Community Garden partner Kim Curtis and VEGGI Farmers Cooperative partner Khai Nguyen. In addition to this incredible lineup, the panel will also include panelists from Grow Dat's youth leadership program.

An Accessible and Informative Discussion

The hosts of "Growing Together: A Discussion on Food Equity and Accessibility" have remained consistent with their mission and are making this event as accessible to all members of the public as possible. Secured parking is offered on-site at the event. However, people can also choose to get a free ride from the rideshare app Lyft by entering their "IAMNEWORLEANS" code at checkout. Food and refreshments will be provided at the event, and childcare will be available for children 4 years and older.

"During this conversation, we'll bring the community to the table to educate and inspire them on the power of growing food and how we can collaborate to create an equitable food system for future generations," said development director at Grow Dat Youth Farm Julie Gable.
