Hunter Cole is an artist of a completely unique medium. She
uses bioluminescent bacteria to create glowing pieces of eye-dazzling
photography. Her exhibit Living Light: Photographs by Light of Bioluminescent
Bacteria will be on display until November 28 at the Zeitgeist
Multi-Disciplinary Arts Center at their new location in Arabi (6621 St. Claude
Avenue).
Hunter is a geneticist at Loyola University, and she applies
her science skills to her artwork. She harvests bioluminescent bacterium
Photobacterium phosphoreum then paints it into petri dishes, making the
cultures into different shapes like stars and swirls. Hunter immortalizes her
little glowing works by photographing them in different ways.
