THE SHOW

Gem and mineral dealers from a variety of Gulf Coast states, will be showing off their hand faceted gems, the rare Louisiana opals, and other items on display will be mineral specimens, fossils, beads, and assorted jewelry. The Louisiana Opals were only commercially mined at the Hidden Fire Opal Mine that closed in the 1990s.

Visitors will be able to crack their own geodes. Each hour there will be raffled door prizes. There will also be two grand prizes and a silent auction on Sunday. If you are already a Society member, you can join in on the silversmithing and casting demonstrations, wire wrapping and cabochon cutting.

There will be exhibits competing on unique rock collections and dinosaur bones. For those fluorescent gem and mineral collectors you will find a special tent just for these precious gems. Cabochon cutting and jewelry making are other options as well.

The Gem and Mineral Show is kid friendly. Kids attending will have a chance to get surprise grab bags. Jurassic Park youth might enjoy the "Make A Fossil", where your child can make their own dinosaur bone. If dinosaurs aren't for your kid, let them have fun making a tree made of gems. What kid wouldn't want one of those? I want one! Finally for the kiddos there will be a Plinko wall.
