Family Pyrate Day 2026

Saturday, March 28 | 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Bargeboard NOLA, 530 Powder St.
Free and open to the public

Ahoy, mateys! If your ideal Saturday includes live music, treasure hunts, and a little swashbuckling spirit, then chart your course for Algiers Point later this month.

On Saturday, March 28, Confetti Park, in partnership with Confetti Kids and NOLA Pyrate Week, will host its annual Family Pyrate Day, a free, family-friendly celebration packed with music, storytelling, and hands-on activities. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bargeboard NOLA, nestled in the heart of Algiers Point.

Designed for pirates and landlubbers of all ages, the day blends New Orleans culture with a playful maritime twist. Guests can expect a lively lineup of entertainment, including performances by The Scurvy Baratarians, known for their high-energy, foot-stomping pirate tunes, and the Confetti Park Players, a beloved local children's choir bringing whimsical, original songs to the stage.

"Dressing in pirate garb, singing sea songs, and swashbuckling around this beautiful city is a wonderful pastime," said Katy Hobgood Ray, founder of Confetti Park. "We invite families to connect with our local history while letting their imaginations run wild. Between the treasure hunts and the live music, Family Pyrate Day is all about the joy of play and the spirit of 'giving something back' to our community."

That spirit of community is rooted in the long-running tradition of NOLA Pyrate Week. Founded nearly two decades ago by Captain John Swallow and Quartermaster Seika Hellbound, the organization blends entertainment with service, supporting local groups such as LowerNine, the Gulf Restoration Network, and Confetti Kids.

"One of the main goals of Family Pyrate Day is the sense of community and camaraderie," Captain Swallow said. "Families, friends, and neighbors gather to celebrate, forge new friendships, and create lasting memories." This year also marks the 10th annual Family Pyrate Day hosted in collaboration with Confetti Kids.

Beyond the music, families can dive into interactive fun with a treasure hunt hosted by the Friends of the Hubbell Library, hands-on crafts, and even lessons in nautical knot-tying. Guests can also browse Bargeboard's curated antique collection while soaking in the festive atmosphere.

And, of course, no pirate gathering would be complete without a proper feast. Food and drink will be available for purchase, including Caribbean BBQ from Fumó, shaved ice from Kona Ice, and libations from the Bargeboard crew.

Adding another layer of excitement, the Confetti Park Players are preparing to release a new album featuring songs inspired by pirates and mermaids. The upcoming project captures the same sense of wonder and imagination at the heart of the event, with lyrics such as, "The sky goes forever, and the ocean beyond. We're boundless as we grow…"
