The 2023 ESSENCE Festival of Culture has released the initial music line-up and it's one for the books. Marking the festival's 29th year in New Orleans, it's set to be a four day experience like none other, with the official festival kickoff happening on June 29.
Here's What to Expect:
Did someone say Lauryn Hill? Yup, you read that correctly.
While Ms. Lauryn Hill gave a surprise performance during Wyclef Jean's show at last summer's festival, this year she is one of the main headliners set to grace the Caesars Superdome stage with a special performance of her Grammy-winning album "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," in celebration of its 25th anniversary. Other headliners and performers that were announced are, Megan Thee Stallion, Wizkid, Monica, Coco Jones, Kiss Daniels and many more.
Presented by Coca-Cola, this year's festival is recognizing 50 years of hip-hop, a theme that will be represented by the music, clothes and atmosphere of the monumental event. Both in-person and virtual experiences will showcase the evolution of hip-hop and how it has influenced cultures from all around the world.
Celebrating the history of hip-hop, festival attendees can expect performances from Doug E. Fresh, bringing some of the best hip-hop pioneers, along with a So So Def 30th anniversary performance presented by super producer, Jermaine Dupri, bringing some of ATL's finest hip-hop artists.
Festival goers can expect additional performances from world famous DJs like DJ Spinderella, DJ Kid Capri and DJ Clark Kent, while also laughing until they cry with host Deon Cole and appearances from comedians Affion Crockett, Spice Adams and Janelle James.
While more announcements will be made during the coming months, fans can expect all of the festival favorites including shopping, beauty tutorials, finance seminars and much more.
