Turning Tables Opens Externship Program
Turning Tables
Turning Tables, founded in 2019, is a non profit youth career development organization with the mission to create an all inclusive bar training program that reflects the spirit of New Orleans. The bar training program was built by industry mentors and was introduced to Crescent City with its first graduating class in 2019. They found that there was a need for community among black and brown bartenders in the hospitality industry at all stages of their career. Turning Tables has established themselves as leaders, mentors, and tastemakers. The organization has a mission to increase equity and opportunity all around in the hospitality industry.
The Externship
The new externship program provides cocktail education and instruction. The externship is for Black and Brown current or future hospitality professionals. The externs are taught techniques according to raw materials and cocktail families, which introduces a plethora of cocktail understanding—from classics to original cocktail creation. In addition to instruction, the externship offers knowledge from speakers, brand ambassadors, distillers, and sommeliers.
For the service component, Turning Tables provides hands-on, real time experience. With weekly assignments, training spaces can include some of New Orleans top bars, restaurants, hotels, clubs, or music venues based on the extern's goals. This is a community organization that takes a holistic approach with their externs in fostering their success in the hospitality industry. Together, externs and mentors will explore cocktail creations, events, education, and more. Click here to apply!
