Riptide has let Fame go to his Head

The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum is releasing the first bobbleheads to feature Tulane University's mascot Riptide the Pelican for fans, students, and alumni alike to show their pride.

The bobblehead is eight inches tall and depicts Riptide wearing a No. 00 Tulane football jersey on a base reading "Green Wave" across the front and the Tulane logo behind him. Each bobblehead is individually numbered to 2,024.

Riptide is now available for pre-sale and costs $35 plus an $8 shipping fee. The bobbleheads are expected to ship by December 2024.

Tulane's Mascot History

Tulane got its Green Wave name in 1920 when a song titled "The Rolling Green Wave" was published in the school newspaper. Since then, the Angry Wave became synonymous with the university until, in 1998, a full redesign of all athletics logos and marks was commissioned, thus introducing the pelican mascot. The name Riptide was picked by a vote of the student body.

Tulane football fans have much to look forward to this season, with new coach Jon Sumrall promising to continue the winning streak created by previous coach Willie Fritz.
