The classically beautiful yet tragic story of Charlie Parker was brought to the Opera stages of Philadelphia in 2015. While Charlie Parker, known as the "Bird" or "Yardbird," was a famous Jazz saxophonist and composer, he was also known for incorporating his love for Jazz and classical music, always dreaming of merging the two.
This dynamic show isn't your ordinary opera. Schnyder's Charlie Parker's Yardbird is a classical-jazz fusion that starts at his untimely death and continues as a dream-like sequence, going back in time with a series of flashbacks. While the show highlights the highs and lows of Charlie Parker's life as a Jazz musician, NOOA (New Orleans Opera Association) wants to assure all, "Make no mistake - this IS opera!"
Making its New Orleans' debut at the New Orleans Jazz Market there are three performances available, from January 20th through the 22nd. For more information please visit www.neworleansopera.org.
