Celebrate the Shortest Day in the Northern Hemisphere
Soulstice is a meditative and healing event taking place December 21 and 22 for those looking to recenter themselves and relax before bringing in the new year.
Soulstice will begin December 21 at 4 p.m. running until 10 p.m. that night and programing will continue December 22 starting at 5 a.m. for sunrise and end at 8 p.m. after sunset. With a commitment to inclusivity and accessibility, the event is free to all with a suggested donation of $20 for those who are able to contribute. The event will take place at The New Marigny Theatre, located on the corner of Spain and Marais.
The event is being put on by Art Street, an arts organization committed to de-disciplining arts programing and experiences for all to be included and accepted. Art Street is committed to creating dynamic and experimental experiences that tie together all forms of art from traditional mediums to experimental performance art and community events.
Spend 21 hours exploring community, ritual, and wellness
Soulstice will begin with the celebration of the winter Solstice, celebrating the soul and spirituality of the shortest day of the year. The two-day event offers a jam-packed schedule of workshops, talks, and events for community connection.
Day one will begin with a sunset walking meditation led
by Reese Johanson, followed by a talk called The Plague Doctor on racism in America,
and then Café de la Muerta, a conversation on grief and the importance of healing
after loss. The night will be brought to a close with a ritual solstice fire and
poetry performance by Raymond Moose Jackson. Some of the day two events on offer will include
yoga, tarot reading, meditation workshops, sunrise walking meditation, breathwork,
solar printing, and a potluck dinner. Lunch will be provided by Top Taco NOLA
with drinks from Who Dat Sprits.
The event will be a great opportunity for the NOLA community to come together to connect and heal and begin 2024 with a fresh outlook and calm mind.
