Non-profit organization Son of a
Saint transforms the lives of boys who are fatherless due to death or
incarceration by providing emotional support and mentorship. The organization
helps boys experience exposure to constructive experiences and fosters the
formation of lasting peer relationships. Each year, the program selects a group
of boys ages 10-12 to remain a member until they turn 18. Son of a Saint takes
a holistic approach to healing and crisis solving that involves behavioral
health, recreational access, one on one mentorship, college and career
readiness, broadening of horizons, tutoring, and tuition assistance.
This year, Son of A Saint will
partner with AOS Interiors and Knoll Furniture as the chosen beneficiary
partner of the Design at HeART on July 29. The event will feature 14 local
artists and designers who will commission and design Muuto Fiber Chairs in
their own unique styles for a charity silent auction.
The proceeds from the event will go
toward furnishing the Son of Saint's new Mid-City location, "A Home for Our
Boys," where a safe and nurturing space will be provided for generations of
young men. Founder of Son of a Saint Bivian "Sonny" Lee III said, "The proceeds from the auction will go a long
way in providing a stable, collaborative environment for the boys we serve. As
we continue to expand our reach and elevate opportunities, we are emboldened by
the creative and enthusiastic support we receive from our partners."
The Design at HeART event will occur at 5:30
p.m. on Thursday, July 29 at the Hotel St. Vincent on 1507 Magazine St.
Appetizers and cocktails will be served. Reservations are required as
availability is limited.
Son of A Saint has increased its mentee
participants from 10 boys to 170 since its inception in 2011. The organization
hopes to increase their members to 200 by the end of 2021 in addition to adding
more programming and more mentors.
