The Smoothie King Center is the third cleanest stadium in the US, according to Betway Insider, and it received very little criticism about being unclean by visitors. That's impressive for a stadium that fills up around 17,000 seats on game day. The New Orleans Pelicans' stadium ranked three out of 29 NBA stadiums for cleanliness.
Betway Insider, a sports editorial blog, conducted a research project to rank the cleanest stadiums in the NBA and NFL. They used reviews from TripAdvisor and Yelp by using keywords like "dirty," "stinky," "filthy," "clean," and "spotless." Each review mentioning these keywords contributed to the stadium's cleanliness score.
Here's how the scoring worked:
For all reviews on TripAdvisor or Yelp, mentioning more negative words like "dirty," "stinky," or "filthy" would result in a negative point (a zero).
Mentioning more positive words like "clean" or "spotless" would result in a positive point.
The points from each review were tallied, with one point for positive mentions and zero points for negative mentions.
A stadium's overall cleanliness score was determined by the proportion of positive to negative points.
Each stadium could earn a maximum of four points based on this method. The Smoothie King Center in New Orleans received the third-highest score, achieving a cleanliness rating of 3.349. This high score might explain why Zion Williamson's shoes are known to squeak so frequently on the court.
How many reviews were unclean? None!
No reviews mentioned Betway Insider's negative keywords for either website. Yelp came to 0.0% negative keywords and 18.18% positive keywords. Out of all the TripAdvisor reviews for the Smoothie King Center, 16.73% mentioned a clean-positive keyword and zero negative points.
