Dr. Michelle K. Johnston Book Launch Party
The Nieux was abuzz with a packed house of business leaders and professionals, as well as several area university students, during the launch party for Dr. Michelle K. Johnston's latest book, The Seismic Shift in You: The Seven Necessary Shifts to Create Connection and Drive Results.
The observation venue, reconstructed Uptown piece by piece from pieces of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, welcomed supporters of Dr. Johnston to celebrate the followup book to her 2022 The Seismic Shift In Leadership: How To Thrive In A New Era Of Connection.
A full bar offered the Seismic Shift cocktail—an orange margarita—to pair with an expansive charcuterie board. Unlike typical book signings, the author listed the interactive plans she scrapped after realizing the audience "did not sign up for any of that,'" instead opting to have an "a Seismic Shift conversation" of sorts, being questioned in a Q&A format by an interviewer as to why the book is relevant and differs from her previous release.
"New Orleans people do 'connection' better than any other city," Johnston said, noting the city's resiliency and comeback in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina is a lesson for current trends. "It's time to come together. There is no competition—we all rise together.
"We have to go from 'transaction' mindset to 'connection,'" she explained in one answer as a major observation in the recent paradigm in post-pandemic social and business communications. "Because productivity without connection leaves people empty."
A Clifton A. Morvant Distinguished Professor in Business at Loyola University New Orleans, Michelle K. Johnston, PhD, is a management professor, executive coach, and leadership expert. Recently named "A Woman of the Year" by CityBusiness and recognized as one of the most influential New Orleanians, Dr. Johnston received her PhD in Communication from Louisiana State University and was named to the prestigious 100 Coaches Group worldwide.
