The Songbird of New Orleans Robin Barnes celebrated the upcoming release of a documentary series "Discovering Home with Robin Barnes" at the New Orleans Jazz Museum this week. Friends, family, and industry insiders gathered to sip French 75s and eat hot gumbo provided by Dickie Brennan before filing into the theater to watch a preview of the show.
Robin explained that she experienced a health scare that made her think about how she would pass on the oral traditions bestowed upon her by her mother to her children. Her response to that was her debut album Louisiana Love. "Discovering Home with Robin Barnes" serves as a companion to the album that weaves poetry, storytelling, song, and the many rhythms of the Louisiana landscape together to showcase the colorful beauty and harmony of not just our state, but the people who call it home.
As Robin travels through south Louisiana cities from New Orleans all the way to Lake Charles, she immerses herself in cultural traditions like the cowboys of Lafayette and making gumbo with musicians Jourdan Thibodeaux. After the preview and the standing ovation, Robin brought her parents to the stage to illustrate how Robin learned about her family history and why she was chosen to pass down the traditions.
Robin is the Executive Producer of the three-part series which premieres on Sunday, October 4th at 8:30 PM on WLAE-TV and streaming live on Robin's YouTube channel.
