The NOLA Gold Rugby Team kicked off the start of the current season on February 8th when they played Old Glory DC, and took home a win, with a final score of 46-13. The game was led by Eight Man, Cam Dolan, who lead off the scoring.

Player, Moni Tongauhia, also touched down a pair of tries, after coming off of the bench for a lot of last season. This game marked the first time that he put up two tries in a game in his career. Julian Doninguez Widmer, an offseason addition wing, put up the biggest highlight for the team, beating two men for the first game as part of the NOLA Gold.

In the next game against Rugby Atlanta, the Gold lost 22-10. Star players included hooker, Lindsey Stevens and center, Carl Meyer, who helped the Gold take an early 7-0 lead.

The NOLA Gold hit the road for the first time this season when they traveled to Colorado to play the Colorado Raptors on Saturday, February 22. The 27-20 win put the Gold in second place in the Eastern Conference. Leading the game was hooker, Eric Howard, Widmer, and Meyer, who scored 13 points in the second half.

On February 29th the team played a great game against the undefeated, league-leading San Diego Legion. The game was a close one, ending in a victory for the San Diego Legion with a final score of 25-21. This game put the Gold back at 2-2 in fourth place in the Eastern Conference with 11 points.

Head coach, Nate Osborne, was sure that his team would beat the Legion after the completion of the first half, explaining that in the second half "we just shot ourselves in the foot," and they "didn't really get anything going."

Going forward, Osborne said that it is important that the team improve on the penalties, as they have been an ongoing issue. The Gold's penalties have made them the most penalized team in the league.

This Saturday, March 7 at 3 p.m. in the Shrine on Airline, catch the Gold battle the New England Free Jacks. You can purchase tickets at https://nolagoldrugby.showare.com/orderticketsvenue.asp?p=27.

The team's home field this season is The Shrine on Airline, a huge move for the team. The stadium, nicknamed "The Gold Mine at the Shrine on Airline," holds a much larger capacity, allows for increased ticket options, suite sales, and sponsorship opportunities.

The NOLA Gold Tailgate Village will open 2 hours before kickoff with music by The Soul Brass Band and $5 pastalaya and beer combo. The tailgates will take place before each of the 8 home games.

Last year, the NOLA Gold was the top scoring team in the Major League Rugby, the premier league in North America. A founding member of the MLR, the NOLA Gold Rugby team is one of six in the newly formed Eastern Conference. They are joined by Toronto, Atlanta, Washtingon, D.C., New York, and Boston.

This 2020 season, the NOLA Gold plan to be even better, after a successful 2019 season. They are set to play each conference opponent twice, in addition to one game against each of the six teams in the Western Conference. This makes for 16 regular season games. Their mission for this season is to bring a high scoring and exciting brand of rugby to New Orleans.
