Pels vs Nuggets

The Pelicans snapped a six-game losing streak on November 15, beating the Denver Nuggets 101-94. The game marked the Pelicans first game of their 2024 NBA Cup Campaign, with the win putting them one step closer to returning to Las Vegas.

Being as shorthanded as they are, it definitely helped the Pelicans that their opponent was shorthanded as well. The Nuggets were without three-time MVP Nikola Jokic, who was ruled out on gameday for personal reasons, starting power forward Aaron Gordon (who's been out with a calf strain), and head coach Michael Malone.

The Nuggets shooting struggles also greatly helped the Pelicans. They went 10-37 from the three-point line, missing seemingly wide-open looks, especially in the second half.

This game though was about Brandon Ingram, who took full control of this game from the opening tip. Ingram was hitting tough shots over just about every Nuggets defender, finishing with 29 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. Brandon Boston Jr. continued to look strong, helping out Ingram with 19 of his own. Trey Murphy III finished with 17 despite a 2-8 night from three.

The Pelicans also dominated the glass, which Coach Willie Green said has been a "huge emphasis" for the team post-game due to them being shorthanded. The Pelicans had 17 offensive rebounds to Denver's five, a big reason for them being able to control the game throughout.

The Pels had a quick turnaround, staying at home to face the Lakers on November 16. The good news for New Orleans is that help may be on the way, with CJ McCollum starting to resume 5 on 5 activity.
