Things Will Be Different (2024)
Things Will Be
Different is a science fiction thriller with a low budget, and that can
often be fun, but this debut feature from writer/director Michael Felker is too
gloomy and detached to be truly engaging.
After performing a bank
robbery, estranged siblings Joseph (Adam David Thompson) and Sidney (Riley
Dandy) lay low at an isolated farm house. This is no ordinary farm house,
however. By changing the time on the clocks and then entering a closet, the
siblings can be transported through time, thus hiding out in different time
periods in the house until the police hunt for them is over. What they didn't
count on is having to wait for and terminate an unwelcomed visitor if they want
to get back to their true timeline.
Most of the film is the
brother and sister waiting around getting into arguments about a generic family
rift. To break up the monotony, we are treated to several montages accompanied
by songs completely inappropriate for a dark thriller.
The acting is fine, and
there are some amazing shots by cinematography Carissa Dorson. However, the
characters aren't that interesting, and the plot's tension never hits a fever
pitch.
Things Will Be
Different is currently playing at the Prytania Theaters at Canal Place.
