The Preservation Resouce Center opened the doors to three beautiful Mid Century Modern homes in Lake Vista last night. The MidMod Home Tour and Happy Hour was a fundraiser for the Preservation Resource Center (PRC). The PRC preserves New Orleans' historic architecture, neighborhoods and cultural identity through collaboration, empowerment and service to our community.

There were three homes on tour that evening. The house at 25 Finch St. was designed by Arthur Q. Davis. The house at 40 Hawk st. was designed by Nathaniel C. "Buster" Curtis Jr. And the house at 15 Swallow St. was designed by Albert C. Ledner.

Once guests checked in, they were free to stroll through the lush Lake Vista neighborhood with a cool drink in hand. It was the perfect opportunity to experience the historic design of Lake Vista, for those who've never been before.

According to the Preservation Resource Center, "The planning of the neighborhood was revolutionary in its own right. Built during the 1930s on reclaimed land from Lake Pontchartrain, the residential development embraced the urban planning ideals of the Garden City movement, which stressed self-sustaining neighborhoods, concentric arrangements and abundant green space. At the center of the new neighborhood were civic and commercial functions — a shopping center, schools and churches — with residential streets, pedestrian lanes and linear parks radiating outwards.

In the prosperous years following World War II, the new lakefront neighborhood became a sandbox for architects to showcase and experiment with bold, modernist designs."

There was a great crowd as people wandered through the homes, taking in the innovating design elements and modern furniture while chatting and mingling. Cocktails, mocktails, and beer from Faubourg Brewing Company were on offer.
