A fan favorite will be welcomed back this weekend at Fair Grounds Race Course and Slots and it is sure to delight many. Exotic Animal Racing will be held this Saturday, January 29.

Forget lions, tigers, and bears…this event features one heat each of camels, ostriches, and zebras running through nine thoroughbred races. Oh my! This event is presented by Miller Lite, Fair Grounds Official Presenting Partner.

The event has had sellout crowds each year since it first debuted in 2012. Last year, the property was unable to host the event due to COVID-19 restrictions and are excited to host the family friendly event for the community again this year.

On top of welcoming back the event, the track is also celebrating its 150th anniversary and ranks as the third oldest track in America. The entire team is proud to be a part of such a milestone and President Doug Shipley said in a press release, "The Fair Grounds is a staple in New Orleans history and we strive to keep tradition alive for the community. We provide the best thoroughbred racing in the state and have had a great start to the season. Our Exotic Animal racing adds to that excitement by providing families and fans with an alternative entertainment experience by cheering camels, ostriches and zebras across the finish line."

This Saturday on January 29, three total Exotic Animal races will take place. There will be one heat each for camels, zebras, and ostriches. Doors open at noon with post time taking place at 1:05 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive early with the exotic races as they are currently scheduled to run just after the 2:25, 3:40 and 4:55 races respectively. First post of the nine thoroughbred races is 1:05 p.m. General Admission and Club House Admission can be purchased at the door the day of the event for $5 GA and $15 CH for everyone 13 and older. Children 12 and under receive free admission.

All Grandstand and Club House box seats are open seating and on a first-come, first-serve basis. Alternatively, you can also purchase tables in the Club House dining room in advance.
