College Baseball Showcase at Maestri Field
The Maestri Classic, a new college baseball showcase event, is set to come to the University of New Orleans' Maestri Field at Privateer Park this coming spring.
New Orleans & Company and the UNO Privateers have announced the new showcase, which will run from Friday, February 19 to Sunday, February 22 and will feature players from the UNO Privateers, Northern Kentucky University, University of Louisiana Monroe, and Alabama A&M University.
The event will also be in partnership with Backyard Sports, a video game franchise that started in 1997 and was previously popular with children. Attendees can expect there to see Backyard Sports game set-ups in addition to all other activities at the Thursday night "Welcome Celebration" that will kick off the Classic.
"The Maestri Classic is a great opportunity to not only showcase and celebrate college baseball in New Orleans, but will also serve as a well-deserved tribute to our very own Louisiana Sports Hall of Famer, Coach Ron Maestri," President & CEO of New Orleans & Company Walt Leger said in a press release. Leger expressed that he looks forward to hosting both locals and visiting fans and hopes to provide family-friendly events for fans to enjoy.
Event planners expect the event to be annual, with the 2027 school roster set to include Yale, Villanova, and Arkansas State—with more schools potentially joining later.
