Krewe of Rex 2026 Parade

One of New Orleans Carnival's oldest krewes, the Krewe of Rex, founded in 1872, will be rolling its 2026 parade on February 17 at 10:30 a.m.

Also known as the Rex Organization, this historic Mardi Gras spectacle derives its authority from its artistry to its title, with rex translating to "king."

What to Expect This Year

The Krewe of Rex's 2026 theme is "Rebirth and Renewal." Each float in the procession will feature legends of revival, incorporating religion and the natural world in each artistic presentation.

The theme's hopeful tone alludes to the extensive cultural differences among individuals, which can be used to promote unity instead of division.

The parade will begin on the corner of S. Claiborne Avenue and Napoleon Avenue. Traveling down Napoleon, the procession will turn left on St. Charles Avenue until reaching Canal Street. Turning right on Canal, the parade will conclude once coming upon Tchoupitoulas Street.

Krewe of Rex Signatures

Rex signatures have inspired many emblems of Mardi Gras from the colors of purple, gold, and green to the use of specialty coins and doubloons as parade throws. And, of course, the krewe also throws Carnival classic beaded necklaces.

The Krewe's History

Following the catastrophe of Katrina, the Rex Organization decided to take action and form the Pro Bono Publico Foundation, titled after the krewe's founding motto. The foundation allocates grants towards the betterment of public education in New Orleans and awards schools with finances.

The organization inspired the Mardi Gras colors, adopting the royal colors of purple, gold, and green at its founding. The offical anthem of Mardi Gras, ""If Ever I Cease to Love," was also a product of Rex's legacy when the song was played in the first Rex parade.
