JPAS Announces List of Early 2023 Shows

Get Some Culture at the Jefferson Performing Arts Center

The Jefferson Performing Arts Society has announced a list of productions that will be taking place in 2023, ranging from pageants, folk dances, tribute concerts, ballet.

The shows will take place at the Jefferson Performing Arts Center, which opened in 2015 and is located at 6400 Airline Dr. in Metairie, and parking is free for all attendees.

The Miss Louisiana USA and Teen USA pageants, the official state preliminary competitions to the national Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants, will take place on February 3 and 4. Both events will take place at 7:30 p.m. and tickets begin at $45.

An ABBA tribute concert titled "Mania: The ABBA Tribute" and originally from London's West End will be taking place on February 14 at 7:30 p.m. Hear some of the Swedish band's most famous hits like "Dancing Queen", "Mamma Mia", and more. Tickets begin at $33.

Another tribute concert called "Liverpool Legends" will focus on the complete musical history of the Beatles with songs from their many different eras. The show will take on February 18 and will also feature many different costumes, state-of-the-art multi-media, vintage instruments, and more. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and tickets start at $33.

A local production of one of Agatha Christie's most famous stories Murder on the Orient Express will run from March 10-12, as well as on March 17 and 18. This classic Hercule Poirot whodunit tale has been adapted by playwright Ken Ludwig and will be directed by local stage icon Janet Shea. Performances are at 7:30 p.m., with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Tickets begin at $25 for general admission and $20 for children, military, students, and seniors.

The Republic of Georgia's National Dance Company will be bringing its "Fire of Georgia" performance to the Jefferson Performing Arts Center on March 16. This is the Tbilisi-based company's first American tour and the show will feature classical Georgian folk dancing, acrobatics, stunts, traditional costumes, and more. The show will be at 7:30 p.m. and tickets start at $28.

A tribute concert to two of the most famous rock pianists in the world titled "Billy vs. Elton" will be occurring on March 24. The show will feature Beau St. Pierre as Sir Elton John, Rick English as Billy Joel, and plenty of songs from both musicians' extensive catalogs. The concert will start at 8 p.m. and tickets start at $25.

America's newest musical sensation Million Dollar Time Machine will be bringing the past to the present in Metairie. This time traveling show will bring some of the most famous musical acts of the past like Whitney Houston, Elvis Presley, Tina Turner, Prince, Cher, Johnny Cash, Michael Jackson, Ozzy Osbourne, and more to the stage and will even feature a band from the future. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets begin at $49.

The magical world of Cinderella will be coming to the Jefferson Performing Arts Center on April 2. This performance, which is part of the World Ballet Series, will feature a multinational cast of 40 ballet dances, 150 hand-sewn costumes, hand-crafted sets, choreography by Marina Kessler, and a score by Sergei Prokofiev. Show starts at 7 p.m. and tickets will begin at $35.

Rodgers & Hammerstein's Carousel, a poignant story about imperfect characters making bad decisions, will run from April 21-23 and April 28-30. Performances are at 7:30 p.m., with the Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets start at $25 for general admission and $20 for children, military, students, and seniors.

Kenneth MacMillan's ballet rendition of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet will take place on May 13 and 14. The classic tale of star-crossed lovers will be accompanied by a live orchestra conducted by Dennis Assaf. The May 13 show will be at 7:30 p.m. and the May 14 will run at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 for general admission and $20 for children, military, students, and seniors.
