Jimmy's Music Club Reopening Concert

By the end of this summer, Jimmy's Music Club will be returning to where it all started at 8200 Willow Street in 1978. A casualty of Hurricane Katrina, the music club shut its doors in 2005 and is making its comeback almost exactly 20 years later with a special concert on August 14.

The club was a hotspot of the punk scene in the 1980s and was a beloved hangout for music lovers. Since 2005, it has been the site of two venues, first The Frat House and then The Willow.

Now, following some ongoing renovations, the space will return to its original name, marking a comeback that will no doubt be special for those who frequented Jimmy's in its heyday and for newcomers, as well.

The Reunion Concert

To mark the resurrection of the music club, Lenny Zenith will perform alongside Johnny Indovina and Uncle Wayne. This concert, which will start at 7 p.m., will support the Tulane Cancer Center and the Humane Society of Louisiana.

A local musician and a trailblazer in the transgender community, Lenny Zenith has decades spanning career that includes collaborations with artists such as Jenifer Convertible, Minor Planets, and RZA. His unique sound includes elements of Cuban music, jazz rock, electronica, and orchestral ballads.

Louisiana-based Johnny Indovina is a rock musician who heads the band Human Drama. He has also been in an assortment of movies, including one on the history of Jimmy's.

Also from Louisiana, Uncle Wayne is an acclaimed DJ who mixes R&B, hip hop, and blues into his music. He has opened for many artists including Willie Clayton, T.K. Soul, Jeff Floyd, and J. Blackfoot.

The reunion concert will be a joyful event of rebirth and renewal. All of these performers have soft-spots for New Orleans and lots of history in the city—a city which lost a treasured part of its identity when Jimmy's shut its doors post-Katrina and which is now gaining it back.
