Looking to kickstart that fitness journey that never quite got off the ground during quarantine? Or just want to enjoy a day of exercise with your community? Then head out to the inaugural Fit NOLA "Fit Fest & Expo" on Saturday, July 10. The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission will host this community fitness event from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the A.P. Sanchez Multi-Service Center at 1616 Caffin Ave. that day.

The new Fit Fest and Expo is part of the New Orleans Health Department's initiative to cultivate a supportive environment for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, according to a press release from the City of New Orleans.

The agenda for Fit Fest is packed, filled with fitness competitions to get those with a competitive streak motivated. These competitions will be hosted by CrossFit NOLA, along with a special Fit NOLA Gauntlet Competition. If you're not as interested in competing against your fellow fitness enthusiasts, you can still enjoy the fitness panels, mini-workout classes, or a 3-on-3 basketball tournament.

Not interested in exercising, but still want to learn more about taking control of your own health? Visit the Wellness Expo happening in tandem with the Fit Fest that will provide you with information on health services as well as display various diet, nutrition, and wellness products and services for your perusal.

Fit Fest will also feature a variety of exciting guests, including owner of Ohm Well Valerie McMillan, owner of Equip Fitness Jerren Pierce, owner of Domango Training Shanda Domango-Brown, and owner of TaylorUrFitness Tawana Taylor. You'll also encounter Footprints to Fitness Instructor Jenny Craig; Motivated Muscle Owner Michael Brown, and Sculpt by Fierce Owner Sasha Newman at the fest.

There will be several professional dancers at the event like hip-hop and backup dancer Emerson Nelson, international performer and former dancer with the Ailey School Catherine Woodfox, and owner of School of Dance and Fitness Tania Daley. Both Ochsner EatFit and Chef Maya Masterson, owner of Black Roux Culinary Collective, will be at the Fit Fest, focusing on food rather than fitness.

Tickets to the event are $25, but only $5 for individual classes and $7 for main stage classes. Event tickets grant you access to the Wellness Expo Hall, as well. If you plan on playing in the basketball tournament, registration is $30 per team.
