If you're fascinated by the unique history and architecture of cemeteries in New Orleans, there is a lecture this week on all things NOLA cemeteries. This Wednesday, June 28 at 7 p.m. at the Chicory Cafe, Emily Ford will give a lecture on the history, background, and preservation of New Orleans' cemeteries.
Ford is an experienced preservationist, conservator, and historian with strengths in cemetery preservation, materials conservation, and archival research. She has been active in cemetery preservation since 2009, focusing specifically on the unique cemeteries of southern Louisiana.
As the Cemetery Superintendent for the City of New Orleans, Emily administers and supervises the planning, operation, maintenance, and preservation of the municipal cemeteries. She will discuss the history, background, and preservation of these six unique cemeteries, with a focus on connecting families to their ancestral burial places.
At the Chicory Cafe, 2725 Prytania St.. Signature cocktails, wines by the glass, and pints of beer will be available for $7 apiece.
