About the Show

Following the plot you know and love from Tchaikovsky's original ballet, The Hip Hop Nutcracker transports you to contemporary New York through its dynamic sets along with the incorporation of modern dance styles and, of course, hip hop music. The Hip Hop Nutcracker is a must-see for fans of hip hop history, with Kurtis "The Breaks" Blow, one of hip hop's founding fathers, performing as the MC. Blow describes the show as a way to "introduce new generations to the magic of hip hop."

Since 2013, this show has been performed over 250 times and continues to receive stellar reviews. This continuous recognition is, without a doubt, due in part to the incredibly talented creators behind the show. Executive producer Eva Price is a three-time Tony Award winner and director/choreographer Jennifer Weber is a two-time Tony Award nominee for Best Choreography. The highly decorated production staff is supported by a gifted cast of dancers and musicians.

Whether you're a fan of Tchaikovsky's well-loved ballet or if the music of Kurtis Blow is more your speed, The Hip Hop Nutcracker is sure to put you in the holiday spirit.

Tickets can be purchased locally at Mahalia Jackson Theater or on their website. For more information about the show visit hiphopnutcracker.com or follow the production on Instagram and Facebook (@hiphopnutcracker).
