People in
the Big Easy know how to party during Carnival season. But Mardi Gras isn't
exclusively celebrated in the city. Although it's such a big deal in New
Orleans, every part of Louisiana lets the good times roll in their own unique
way.
After a
one-year hiatus, the City of Gretna will throw a Mardi Gras Kick-Off throughout February. This year's
kick-off will take place at various locations along Huey P. Long Avenue, hence
the theme #SeeYouOnTheHuey.
This year's
kick-off will be jam-packed with events that's sure to knock your socks off.
Starting on Wednesday, February 9, you'll get to enjoy a signature drink from
participating restaurants and bars in your very own "Parade on the Huey" glass.
You'll also get to have a picnic under a personal bubble tent, sample king
cakes from participating bakeries at the Gretna Cultural Center for the Arts on February 10, visit the Gretna Farmers'
Market from 11 a.m. to
12:30 p.m. on February 12 for its 8th Annual Soup Cook-Off, and listen to Glenn Boyd sing love ballads from
Lionel Richie
with your sweetheart on February 12. To wrap
things up, Gretna will throw its Party on the Huey event on Lundi Gras (the
night before Fat Tuesday) from 6 to 10 p.m., where you'll eat, sing, and dance
all night long.
There'll
also be parades and contests. The Krewe of House Floats theme this year is "Hansel & Gretna: A Grimm
Fairytale." Gretna residents are encouraged to bathe their front yards in
purple, green, and gold, as well as hand out beads to passing cars. The parade
will start on Friday, February 11, at 6 p.m. Plus, there'll be a Krewe of Kuties parade circling Huey P. Long Avenue on Saturday, February
12, at 2 p.m., which will be exciting for the little ones.
If you're
going to the kick-off, keep yourself updated as a list of participating peoples
and businesses will be available in the coming weeks.
