The Lafitte Greenway has been enjoyed by and connecting pedestrians and bicyclists in New Orleans since 2015. Why not go out and show your support for this local trail by taking part in a fundraising event for it in early December?

The Friends of Lafitte Greenway, in partnership with NORD, will be hosting a free event from December 9 to 11 called Greenway Supernova. The festivities will take place at the Lafitte Greenway Plaza and Station, located at 436 N. Norman C. Francis Pkwy., from 5-9 p.m. each day. The celebration will serve as a celebration of the community formed by the Greenway, as well as raise funds for continued care in 2022.

"Supernova celebrates the Greenway and our community with art, light, joy, and creativity, and it makes the Greenway growth and care possible," Executive Director of Friends of Lafitte Greenway Sophie Vorhoff said.

Plenty of local food and drink vendors, such as Dat Dog, Paella NOLA, Second Line Brewing, Seven Three Distilling, and much more will be present at the event. There will be live music going on during Greenway Supernova with acts such as Mahmoud Chouki and Shannon Powell performing on December 9, the James Singleton Trio and Bon Bon Vivant on December 10, and FLAXAN and Meschiya Lake on December 11.

There will also be 12 light-based installations that can viewed during the event. The work of the following local artists will be featured:

-Philip Cooper
-The Dohm Collective
-Talia Lipkind
-Monique Lorden
-Stephen Montalvo
-William Nemitoff
-Josh Pitts
-Kris Schmolze
-Breanna Thompson
-U.S. EPA & USGS (Dillion Chandler) Virtual Krewe of Vaporwave

While the event is free, people are encouraged to contribute donations to ensure the Lafitte Greenway's upkeep. Anyone who donates will receive "doubluminary" tokens to exchange for perks and specials at participating businesses from December 1 to Mardi Gras 2022.
