Fest Fun for All
Volunteer, donate, and connect with wider NOLA community with Grace at the Green Light this Jazz Fest season. Grace at the Green Light is looking for volunteers to help bring unhoused members of the New Orleans community to Jazz Fest and more fun activities this year.
This will be the second annual edition of what will
hopefully become a yearly tradition. Grace at the Green Light will be bringing
people to the fest on Thursday, April 25 and Friday, May 3. Each day will run from
11 a.m. to 8 p.m. This incredible organization is looking for volunteers to help
chaperone each group to the festival. All volunteers and participants will be
given free admission and a food allowance.
Fest for the Homeless
Grace at the Green Light will also be hosting a "Fest for the
Homeless" day on Saturday, April 27. The day will kick off with breakfast, coffee, and
time for community connection at the organization's location on 400 Rampart St. from 6:15-8:30 a.m. Volunteers will help serve food, give out hygiene kits, and more. Volunteers will then pass out flyers to canvas
and invite unhoused community members to the rest of the day's events. The main "Fest
for the Homeless" activities will take place under the Highway 90B bridge at the
intersection of Calliope Street and Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There will be food,
water, music, and more for all to enjoy.
Grace at the Green Light has served over 261,000 meals to the
unhoused population of the city since it was founded in 2014. Since then, it has
become an increasingly integral part of the city and has helped many citizens
get the food, clothes, and water that they need. They have reunited 2,800 families
through their "I'm Going Home" program, helping homeless individuals reconnect
with and travel to their loved ones. They are always looking for new
volunteers, donations, and support year-round.
