Get To Know Oak Street

Located in Uptown, Oak Street boasts a variety of local businesses including New Orleans gems such as Jacques-Imo's Café, Maple Leaf Bar, Blue Cyprus Books, and dozens more. On July 17 and 18, the Oak Street Merchants, Residents, and Property Owners (OSMRPO) group is hosting the first-ever Get To Know Oak Street event designed to introduce locals and visitors to the vibrant businesses that line the historic corridor.

To kick off the event, participants can pick up bingo cards at participating Oak Street businesses before visiting at least one location on each block of Oak Street to be eligible for prizes. Prize winners have the chance to snag gifts from over 35 Oak Street merchants, including Eclectic Home, Breads on Oak Bakery and Café, 14 Parishes, and many more.

From chiropractors and spas to quaint cafés and craft distilleries, Oak Street is packed full of New Orleans' finest artisans. Join the Oak Street Merchants, Residents, and Property Owners to celebrate and support the local businesses of Oak Street while fostering fun and community connections.

Oak Street's History

Until it was annexed by New Orleans in 1874, the Carrollton neighborhood functioned as its own city, with Oak Street serving as the area's commercial main road. As infrastructure and road maintenance declined, a major portion of Oak Street was thoroughly renovated as part of a government-funded revitalization project in 2009.

Today, the seven-block stretch boasts a multitude of small businesses such as hobby shops, clothing boutiques, dining establishments, and more.

Every year in mid-November, Oak Street garners up to 30,000 people for the renowned Oak Street Po-Boy Festival, paying tribute to the famous New Orleans French bread sandwich and lining Oak Street with hungry visitors and locals alike.
