Meet New Orleans' First-Time Mayoral Candidates
Eight first-time New Orleans mayoral candidates will share their visions for the city at the Fresh Voices Forum on Tuesday, August 12, moderated by veteran journalist Norman Robinson at Ye Olde Grande Hall.
The forum, which begins at 6 p.m., is designed to give voters an early look at candidates who have never held elected office. The event is free to attend.
Candidates in Attendance
Frank Robert Janusa, a Republican business executive, is campaigning on fiscal responsibility, public safety, and government accountability.
"Manny Chevrolet" Bruno, a comedian and perennial satirical candidate, mixes humor with criticism of political corruption and inefficiency.
Richard "Ricky" Twiggs, an independent licensed counselor, focuses on crime prevention and youth services.
Renada Collins, a no-party entrepreneur and business coach, emphasizes small business growth and job training.
Eileen Carter, a no-party media professional, is campaigning on government transparency and technology upgrades.
Russell J. Butler, a community advocate, prioritizes crime reduction and neighborhood investment.
Frank M. Scurlock, a businessman and 2017 mayoral candidate, promotes a "No Nonsense. Just Business" approach.
Joseph "Joe" Bikulege Jr. is an independent and small business owner.
Current New Orleans mayor LaToya Cantrell is term-limited and will leave office in January 2026. Other candidates already in the race include City Councilmember Helena Moreno, State Senator Royce Duplessis, former judge Arthur Hunter, former 911 chief Tyrell Morris, and longtime councilmember Oliver Thomas.
