First, take a splash with Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr. at Slidell's Cutting Edge theater! We all know the beloved "tail" of Ariel, a spunky mermaid princess who longs for a taste of the human world - with human legs to match. Watch as our fiery heroine and her aquatic friends move out from "under the sea" and learn to navigate the strange world above, all on the centerstage, with showings from June 2 until June 12. Purchase your tickets soon! 767 Robert Blvd.,

Next up, celebrate a kickoff to pride month with New Orleans' French Market District. On Sunday, June 5, they will be hosting a "picnic for all y'all" in Crescent Park, with loads of entertainment for the whole family! Food trucks will be there to quench your thirst and appease your hunger, and plenty of New Orleans' community and LGBTQ+ organizations will be represented at the event. The picnic is open to the public and free. Crescent Park, https://www.frenchmarket.org/event/apicnicforallyall/

If you're in the mood for some spooky thrills this weekend, look no further than New Orleans' annual Overlook Film Festival. Celebrating all things horror in the heart of America's most haunted city, film will be rolling nonstop from June 2 through June 5, with a multitude of 2022 horror movies and a few genre classics taking the big screen of Prytania Theatres at Canal Place. Take a peek at the full schedule of events here. 333 Canal St., 3rd floor, https://www.overlookfilmfest.com/

To wrap up your whirlwind weekend, grab a good book at the New Orleans' Symphony Book Fair, benefitting the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra! Held at the UNO Lakefront Arena from June 3 through June 5, this event will feature a wide range from classic to contemporary literature of all genres, an abundance of recorded and sheet music, and artwork from around the world. Entrance is free, but extra eager readers can pay a small fee for early admission to get the first pick of the bunch! 6801 Franklin Ave., http://lpovolunteers.org/book-fair/annual-book-fair/
