Amherst, Massachusetts natives Dinosaur Jr. started off together as a band in 1984 under the name Dinosaur, but due to legal issuer were forced to change their name. The band was founded by J Mascis (guitar, vocals), Lou Barlow (bass, vocals), and Murph (drums) and stayed that way till 1997. In 2005, this original lineup reunited and have been touring and recording ever since.

If you've seen a Dinosaur Jr show within the last ten years or so, Friday nights show at the Joy wouldn't really have surprised you much. That's not a bad thing, but more a testament to the band's longevity. The set was a was comprised of material off eight Dinosaur albums as well as their crowd favorite and show ender Cure cover of "Just Like Heaven." These nothing glitzy about a Dino Jr set. It's pretty well straight forward and direct. The crowd of course reacted to the hits but also showed a great satisfaction of the other material. You can see more pictures here.
