As the
early summer heat settles over the city this June, we eagerly transition from
massive spring festivals to more curated community gatherings. Enter Brass
& Brunch—a brilliant collision of sound, flavor, and New Orleans heritage
taking place on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
Housed
within the historic walls of the Tremé Market Branch on North Claiborne Avenue,
this gathering is designed to honor the roots of our city's culture. There's
nothing like the sound of music hitting your spirit while a good plate of food
sits in front of you—all while celebrating those who continue to share the
narrative of New Orleans food and culture through their gifts.
This year, this event is designed to proudly honor Chef Linda Green, better known as the YaKa-Mein Lady, as well as trumpeter, vocalist, composer, and producer Shamarr Allen—two cultural forces whose impact continues to shape the sound and flavor of the city with a feeling impossible to explain by those who have experienced their gifts through all of the senses.
The
culinary journey for the afternoon is expertly curated by
Chef Jayda Atkinson and her Culinary Cousins. She's a showstopper who
has been making the rounds with live cooking demonstrations and storytelling
and is definitely one to keep an eye on for lots of exciting ideas to come. Her
bountiful brunch spread reflects a rich, flavorful journey through authentic
New Orleans cuisine, and this event truly shows off her greatest talent of all—bringing
people together and sharing their stories in order to celebrate.
Guiding
guests through the afternoon is the dynamic Arkesha Baquet, a food expert in
her own right but also someone who knows how to host an amazing party and make
sure everyone is having the best time with her seamless blend of
advocating for entrepreneurship, the Tremé community, and legacy. The
musical lineup is a brass lover's absolute dream, featuring live performances
by the Young Groovy Brass Band, Da Truth Brass Band, and The Stooges Brass
Band. Just reading those names on a flyer is enough to make you want to grab
your second line umbrella and start stepping right through your front door.
Brass
& Brunch is a love offering to New Orleans and to the culture, the people,
and the moments that bring us together. So, as New Orleanians settle into
