To wrap up July and begin August in an exciting way, attend Satchmo SummerFest! The festivities will take place on Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, August 1. Presented by Chevron, these two days will be filled with live music, delicious food, and refreshing beverages to create a memorable event that will celebrate the life and music of Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong.
Satchmo SummerFest will take place at the New Orleans Jazz Museum, where guests can enter the museum while also enjoying the tents and stages set up outside. On the third floor of the museum, patrons will be able to listen to discussions by renowned Louis Armstrong scholars. Not only will these discussions be informative, but they will also be fascinating.
Multiple jazz artists and brass bands will be playing on stage throughout the two days. Some of the artists that will be performing include Wendell Brunious, James Andrews, Hot 8 Brass Band, and Doreen's Jazz. Performances will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday and at 12 p.m. on Sunday. The festival will end at 8 p.m. on both days.
To cool off from the heat, beer, wine, cocktails, and soft drinks will be available for purchase. Abita Beer will have a beer garden set up, and Sonoma-Cutrer Vineyards will have their own Rosé Café. Different local food vendors will be providing appetizing snacks and bites at the two food stands. This year's menu has not been announced yet, but in the past, businesses such as the Big Cheezy, Company Burger, and Plum Street Snoballs have been returning food vendors.
It is important to note that pets, along with outside food and beverages, are not allowed at the event. Tickets will be $7 in advance or $10 at the door, with children under 12 being able to enter for free.
