This coming Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., KID smART is hosting Art Jam, a free community celebration of all things art and education. Attractions will include hands-on activities, live performances, and arts-based workshops outdoors located at the Southern Rep Theater at 2541 Bayou Road.
All Art Jam activities will be led by KID smART teaching artists as well as professionals from Oschner, New Orleans Public Library, Electric Girls, New Orleans Museum of Art, Art Camp 504, The Waldorf School, Keep Louisiana Beautiful and more! These workshops specialize in engaging children creatively and giving them the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in a wide range of art forms and topics, from origami to sewing, and even including classes on beginner coding. These programs are designed to highlight the ways by which instruction through the arts can better engage the attention of children and further advance academic learning-- a principle concept of KID smART's organizational mission.
In addition to all the free activities, there will also be musical performances done by the likes of Preservation Hall & The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as a raffle that includes select prizes from local vendors such as Dancing Grounds, YAYA, and A Studio In the Woods.
Stop by the neighboring Pagoda Cafe to fuel up on coffee and treats beforehand, and 20% of all sales will go towards benefitting KID smART.
For over 20 years KID smART has been dedicated to providing public school youth with greater access to arts-rich education. Their vision is to use this emphasis on artistry to empower all children to access their full academic, creative, and personal potential. By working both within and outside of school curriculums, KID smART has been able to provide a holistic and evidence-based suite of arts education programming.
