The summer may be coming to an end soon, but that just means the time has come for the Zulu Back to School Giveaway hosted by the Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club, Inc. This is one of three events coming soon as part of Zulu's continuing effort to support the New Orleans community.
Zulu has long been known for its community engagement. For years, the organization has given Christmas gifts to families in need, participated in the Adopt-a-School program, contributed to the scholarship fund at Southern University, and worked with numerous other community organizations, according to kreweofzulu.com.
Keeping with its tradition of helping out those in the community in need, the Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club will be hosting the Zulu Back to School Giveaway. This event will be held Saturday, July 31 at McDonogh 35 Senior High School, located at 4000 Cadillac St., from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This event will provide COVID vaccines to those wishing to be vaccinated, as well as school supplies, free haircuts, healthy snacks, music, and door prizes to win! This event is being sponsored by Inspire NOLA, Uniform by Logo Express, Rouses Markets, and DePaul Community Health Centers, according to a press release from Zulu.
The Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club, Inc. will also be hosting its annual William and "Sonny Jim" Poole Picnic on Sunday, August 29. This event will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in City Park at the Reunion Shelter on the Festival Grounds.
Although still a few months away, Zulu will also be hosting its 8th annual golf tournament on Saturday, September 18. This event will take place at the Joseph M. Bartholomew, Sr. Municipal Golf Course.
