New Orleans official minor league baseball team, The Zephyrs (what is a zephyr?), are changing their name with the help of their fans. Since a zephyr, according to Merriam-Webster, means “a very soft or gentle wind,” the team owners have decided to change the name to something that better reflects the city. The San Diego-based firm, Brandoise, has come up seven possible replacement names for the fans to vote on. The names, however, may confuse anyone who isn’t from New Orleans. The finalists are: The New Orleans Crawfish, Po’Boys, Baby Cakes (my personal favorite), King Cakes, Night Owls, Red Eyes, or Tail Gators. The public will be able to begin voting on Thursday at zephyrbaseball.com.
