Festival season is in full gear in New Orleans, and if you've been there recently, you've probably heard some live music. The revival of Brass and Glass is scheduled for May 19 from 6 - 9 p.m. This is a fundraiser and free spring showcase by YAYA artists. There will be a glassblowing demo by Cedric Mitchell. Enjoy music by Young Fellaz Brass Band and participate in a goblet grab, where you purchase a handcrafted glass and drink for free all night. YAYA is a non-profit arts community and teaching design studio dedicated to the artistic, professional, and personal development of creative young people in New Orleans.

YAYA (Young Aspirations Young Artists, Inc.) was created in 1988 by New Orleans artist Jana Napoli and art students from Rabouin High School (International High School of New Orleans) as a creative and entrepreneurial collaboration. The after-school enrichment program fostered local high school students' artistic abilities while simultaneously enhancing their academic achievement, life skills, and career preparation. Early YAYA Artists (The Original 8) learned to leverage their artistic abilities into professional paths by focusing on salvaged things and recycled materials. The "YAYAs" sold artworks across New Orleans' CBD (Central Business District), then in New York and other American cities, and eventually abroad. YAYA's guild program of youth development through art became a model for other organizations in the process.
