Last night, Thursday March 3, WYES hosted a Downton Abbey-themed gala at the beautiful home of Lisa and Trip Ludwig in Old Metairie.  Guests dressed in period dress or black tie attire, and enjoyed food by Celebrate! Catered Events by Windsor Court, drinks by Goldring Family Foundation, and even hand-rolled cigars from the Cigar Factory.  Along with dining and dancing the night away to the music of Deacon John and the Ivories, this was the chance for Downton Abbey fans to bid a fond farewell to their beloved television program.  The last episode in the final season is to air this Sunday at 8 p.m. on WYES.  If you’re a real hardcore Downton Abbey fanatic, you might enjoy seeing the final show on the big screen at the Orpheum Theater Sunday at 3 p.m.  Take part in the costume contest that day, enter a raffle to win actual props from the show, or opt for a VIP package which includes champagne and a goodie bag.

Downton Abbey is definitely going out in style, as did the guests Thursday night. Other highlights of the gala-- which was aptly titled just that: “Downton Abbey, Going Out in Style,” included an authentic Downton Abbey-style Rolls Royce which served as a backdrop for photographs as guests arrived at the event, and an awards ceremony. The WYES Chairman’s Award was presented to Paulette and Frank Stewart, and Paul Spencer was honored with the President’s Award.
