Although we may have many concerns for humanity these days
with COVID-19 and beyond, there seems to be trouble for other species as well.
This week, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement
agents are seeking unknown shooters of a black bear in St. Tammany Parish. A
necropsy indicated that the bear in question was indeed shot to death and was
in fact shot by a rifle at what authorities estimate to be a few days before
May 17.
This is an illegally killed animal and, as such, the department
requests that anyone with information pertinent to the death of the black bear
call in to the Louisiana Operation Game Thief hotline at 1-800-442-2511 or
utilize LDWF's tip411 program. The lines are operated day and night, 24 hours a
day, should anyone have any information regarding this illegal killing. The
department is offering a $6,000 reward for information leading to the arrest
and conviction of the black bear killers in question.
