The NOJO was rockin’ and the City Park zombies were walkin’, but things are slowing down a bit this weekend as the summer heat is now officially upon us. Wednesday in particular holds a few fun events for your mid-week pleasure.
For your busy Wednesday evening, head down to Dat Dog on Freret Street to partake not only in their delicious gourmet hot dogs, but on the many dishes available at the Food Truck Fest that goes on from 4:30-8 p.m. and is presented by Dat Dog and My House NOLA. Trucks include La Cocinita, Empanada Intifada, Mammita’s Hot Tamales, The Fat Falafel, Food Drunk and more. And, as with any good festival, live music will be provided. The fest is free to attend. Songstress Tonya Boyd-Cannon and friends will be performing a show for the Acoustically Yours series at the Healing Center’s Café Istanbul on Wednesday evening at 9 p.m. for free.
Big Deal Burlesque will show you why they are a big deal on Thursday evening at Siberia at 8 p.m. for $8. Stick around for Disco Nouveau at 10 p.m.
Brave the heat on Saturday to attend the quarterly Record Raid at the Old Ironworks in the Bywater (located at 612 Piety St. across from Pizza Delicious) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dozens of vendors will be selling thousands of vinyl albums, and plenty of CDs for the younger set, and many other items. The raid is free. Our very own contributing writer Kimmie Tubre will be conducting a reading from her new children's book entitled Nola Goes to the Zoo at the Algiers Regional Library at 2:30 p.m. The reading is free, open to the public, and there will be arts and crafts. Come out and show her your support! Get in your time machine and go down to the NOLA Time Fest taking place in the present at the Jefferson Orleans North (2600 Edenborn Ave., Metairie) in Fat City. The NOLA Time Fest presented by C.O.G. and the Krewe du Who celebrates all things Dr. Who. Admission is $15 for art showings, panels on the show, a costume contest, and a live performance by the Consortium of Genius. The Fest is from 2-9 p.m.
Stay awake on Sunday night to see two awesome metal shows. Like many others, you may want to make both, and I suggest visiting the French Quarter before the Bywater. Brooklyn Vegan and Invisible Oranges presents Weedeater , ASG, and our locals Fat Stupid Ugly People take at One Eyed Jacks at 9 p.m. for $15, then Valient Thorr, Gypsyhawk, Ramming Speed, and locals Mountain of Wizard play at Siberia at 10 p.m. for $10.
