We're Going Greek!

I had the opportunity to try out some amazing wine from the Trinchero Winery from Napa Valley and food at Besh Steak in Harrah’s Casino this past weekend, and it was amazing. I highly recommend enjoying the same. Some of the restaurants at Harrah’s will be doing beer and wine-paired dinners over the summer. I’ll keep you posted!

The Deutsches Haus is showing the popular German industrial/metal band Rammstein’s 1998 concert film called Live Aus Berlin at their club for free on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The event is open to the public. Later that evening, Retox, Tinsel Tooth, and Ghost Police perform at the Circle Bar at 10 p.m. One of the greatest guitar gods of our time will be at the House of Blues on Thursday night. Yngwie Malmsteen will show off his impressive guitar skills beginning at 7 p.m. for $30 with Burning Heat. Our local boot-stompin’ acoustic band fronted by our most recent Ones to Watch artist My Graveyard Jaw will perform at 6 p.m. at the same venue in Big Momma’s Lounge for free.

Nothing goes better with Elvis music than scantily-clad women. The best Elvis Presley cover band in the biz Clockwork Elvis and the Monkees cover band The Missing Links will be providing the fantastic music for the NOLA Bikinis Fashion Show at Rock N’ Bowl on Friday night at 9:30. All this fun begins at 7 p.m. for $15.

One of my personal favorite fests is coming this weekend; Greek Fest is fabulous at forty this year. The three-day fest goes on from Friday through Sunday, and if you wear a toga on Sunday, you get in for free. Regular admission is $5. At Greek Fest, you can sample exotic foods, the stuffed grape leaves are always popular, watch traditional Hellenic dancing, and tour their amazing church. The Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Holy Trinity is situated along Bayou St. John at 1200 Robert E. Lee Blvd. and you can rent kayaks.

There’s a fest of another kind happening at two different Mid City establishments over two days. The Memorial Day Weekend Food Truck Party is bringing together two sets of five food trucks at 12 Mile Limit at 500 South Telemachus St. on Saturday and at Juan’s Flying Burrito at 4724 Carrolton Avenue on Monday both from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. The trucks to expect include La Cocinita, Food Drunk, Fat Falafel, Empanada Initfada and live bands will perform at both parties.

Saturday is the technical metal band Dillinger Escape Plan with Royal Thunder and The Faceless at One Eyed Jacks at 10 p.m. for $20, and the comedic horror film 100 Bloody Acres plays at the Zeitgeist Multi-Disciplinary Arts Center on Oretha C. Haley Blvd. on Monday night only at 7:30 p.m.
