Urban South Brewery, along with 300 other breweries, joins
the "Black is Beautiful" beer initiative to bring awareness to injustices faced
by people of color.
Led by Weathered Souls Brewing Company, "Black is Beautiful"
encourages breweries to use base stout beer recipes and add their own unique
twists. Breweries are asked to donate 100 percent of profits to a local
organization that supports equality.
Urban South's "Black is Beautiful" beer creation will be
released in July, and the brewery will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from their
beer sales to New Orleans's Youth Empowerment Project.
"We saw this as an opportunity to raise awareness, show
solidarity, and provide some funds for organizations in our community that are
addressing these structural inequalities at the ground level," said Jacob
Landry, founder of Urban South Brewery. "We fully recognize that this is a
small step and are committed to continuing to support causes and policies that
push for equality in our community."
The mission of this movement is to close the gap and provide
a platform to ensure that the brewing community is for everyone.
