For high school graduates coming out of the Orleans Parish school system and struggling to get into local colleges, The University of New Orleans offers an “instant” route. Meeting on July 13 to sign a “memorandum of understanding,” Orleans Parish School Board Superintendent Henderson Lewis, Jr., and UNO President John Nicklow agreed to initiate the “Instant Admit Program.” The program aims to get local students to envision themselves as college students and eventual college graduates. By guaranteeing admission if they meet eligibility requirements, their goal is to make the college admission process simple and less stressful.
Eligibility requirements include:
- Submission of application for admission (No Application Fee for students in the Orleans Metro area)
- ACT Score of 19 in Math and 18 in English
- Have a GPA of 2.5 or greater
For local students planning to stay in the city to pursue their education, The University of New Orleans also offers a number of scholarships.
