New Orleans musicians are second to none, especially the great pianists of New Orleans lore. Ivan Neville, Tom McDermott, and Harry Connick Jr. are just a few of those modern greats. But one name stands above all the rest when it comes to the rich history of pianists in New Orleans: Professor Longhair. By coincidence, the house built to showcase Longhair’s musical genius, Tipitina’s, will play host to the legendary musician’s 100th birthday bash. The famous music hall hosted countless shows featuring Professor Longhair and other New Orleans greats, and it will once again bring out all the stars to celebrate Longhair, a New Orleans icon. Musical guests include Ivan Neville, Jon Cleary, John “Papa” Gros, Alfred “Uganda” Roberts, Reggie Scanlon, Deacon John, Roger Lewis, and so many more. Overseeing this team of musical all-stars will be Meters bassist George Porter Jr. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., the show starts at 8:00 p.m., and a portion of the proceeds will help benefit the New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic.
