The New Orleans Opera, which strives to continue the city's long history as a prime location for opera in America, just recently announced its new 2021-22 season. The announcement comes as New Orleans slowly works towards opening back up after being under lockdown for more than a year because of COVID-19.
"This season captures so much of what we love about opera: it is bookended by the works of two great operatic composers, Wagner and Puccini," Clare Burovac, general director of the New Orleans Opera, said. "Between those productions, we have an exceptional evening of opera and dance, which honors an American icon, as well as a celebratory concert featuring some of the greatest music ever composed. As we take steps towards recovering from the effects of this pandemic, this season feels like a breath of fresh air - like the sun rising after a long winter.
Subscription packages for the entire season are on sale now. An early-bird discount, which offers 30 percent off a single ticket, is also currently available to the general public until July 1, 2021. Single tickets will also go on sale on July 1.
