The last time Canadian band, The New Pornographers, played at Tipitina's was back in 2017, when they were promoting their Whiteout Conditions album. Continue as a Guest is the band's latest effort and was released March 31, 2023. It is always a daunting task to tour on a new album and even a bit more when the release date is so close to the beginning of the tour.
Friday night's twenty-two song set included seven of the ten new tracks and material off of the band's other eight releases. The audience was not even phased by the inclusion of so many tracks and surprisingly enough, sang along with them as well as the tried-and-true tracks from the band's other releases. Neko Case (vocals) and Carol Newman (vocals and guitars), two of the band's original members soaked in the reactions to the new material with great appreciation.
